2021-2022 WELCOME PACKET
Dear Daniel Boone Families,
From all of us on the Daniel Boone PTO Executive Board we want to say welcome back to school! And if you’re new this year, welcome to DB, you’ll love it here. As we leave our swimsuits and flip flops behind and enter into the 2021-2022 school year we are filled with excitement and anticipation for what this school year will bring. In this packet you will find information about our PTO, calendar, volunteer and ongoing fundraising opportunities and more. Please look it over and don’t hesitate to reach out to us any time!
WHAT IS THE PTO AND WHO CAN BE A MEMBER?
This packet contains some very important information about the 2021-2022 school year, but before we dive into all that, we’d like to take a moment to explain what we are all about. Our organization, which is made up of parents, teachers and administrators, provides support to and communication with parents, teachers, students, administrators and the surrounding community. Our group is made up of many people with varied backgrounds, personalities, strengths and schedules.
We have a pretty active PTO and as a result we have a lot of information to share. In an effort to reach all of our families we send home paper flyers. We also share information via e-news and on the Facebook group Daniel Boone PTO. With these three methods of communication, we believe we will effectively reach every family.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with us, we are a volunteer organization made up of parents, teachers, administrators, and support staff who are all dedicated to the successful education of our children. Daniel Boone Elementary PTO strives to provide educational and cultural support for the Daniel Boone Elementary School student body, as well as provide social opportunities for the whole community.
Did you know that you’re already a member of the PTO? If you have kiddos at DB you are automatically a member of our PTO. There’s nothing to join, no dues…just by virtue of being a part of our DB family, you are a part of our PTO family. And that’s really what we have here. If you’re a returning DB family, you already know this. If you are new this year, you’ll find this out. Our DB community is indeed a family, which is one of the greatest perks of small town living. We know each other, we help each other. And who better to help than our children and the people who are educating them and shaping them into the wonderful young adults they’ll soon become. We have lots of fun events, activities and projects planned this year and everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend and/or help out with them. An old adage holds true here, the more the merrier!
Our PTO is a great organization to get involved with. Did you know that the PTO helps the school by providing books for our library, fund school beautification efforts, and helps fund the school’s technology needs? We sponsor many social events, including the Boohoo/Yahoo breakfast, Bubble Run, Trunk or Treat, Trivia Night, MAP Carnival, Teacher Appreciation Week and more!
None of this is possible, however, without continued parent involvement! We need YOU! Your support is critical to the success of our PTO and there are many ways in which you can be involved. In addition to these volunteer opportunities, we would like to encourage your support in our many fundraising events. Finally, we hope to see you at our meetings! This is a great way to meet the board and our principal, Mr. Armour, and to voice your questions and/or concerns. As stated above, every DB parent is a PTO member, many of us have made lasting friendships through the PTO, and we look forward to meeting you!
Our monthly PTO meetings are scheduled as follows, all meetings are at 6:30 pm and will be held virtually. The zoom information will be posted on the Daniel Boone PTO Facebook page and in the enews sent out via email from the school. All dates are tentative.
PTO PROGRAMS & FUNDRAISING
Our primary objective as a PTO is to provide our school with funds, programs, resources and services that will enrich and maximize the education of every child. To meet this important objective, and afford services that aren’t covered by our school budget, we must fundraise. Though it may not be our favorite responsibility, it is a necessary one. Our school community must raise money if we want to provide our children with the intervention resources, STEAM related activities, flexible furniture, 21st century learning and better home and school coordination that will help them do their best. We are excited about the potential our school has to achieve these goals and would appreciate your help in reaching them.
Just like last year we hope to reach our fundraising goal with just a couple smaller fundraisers like Spirit Wear and Penny Wars and a few fun, larger events as mentioned above.
We hope to make supporting our children’s school as easy as possible. In fact, a couple of our ongoing fundraising programs are as easy as scanning receipts and shopping online. BECOME A VOLUNTEER
We are a busy group and we could definitely use your help! Not only do we greatly appreciate your help, our children need it. Over 500 independent studies on parent involvement show that when parents get involved in their children’s education grades go up, test scores improve, children are more likely to attend better schools after high school, they have fewer discipline problems and they’re less likely to use drugs and alcohol. We have a wonderful community here at Daniel Boone and with your help it can be even better!
Volunteering doesn’t have to mean a huge time commitment. We understand it is increasingly more difficult to find time to give, whatever your time schedule allows, we will take it! We have tasks that can be performed in the evenings, during the day, or that don’t even involve coming to the school at all. Our parent group is certainly about more than bake sales! We’re about families working together toward a common goal. That goal, simply stated, is creating a better school and a better educational experience for our children. We strive to create an atmosphere where teachers, administrators, support staff and our children can do their best work. There is so much more that can be done and we need your help. Below you’ll find some fundraisers you can easily do throughout the year, from quickly scanning receipts to shopping on Amazon. They’re easy and worth it…win, win!
MATCHING GIFT PROGRAMS
There are many companies in the St. Louis area that offer matching gift programs. Please check with your human resources or personnel department to see if they offer donation matching. Many companies allow their employees or retirees to direct their charitable giving programs through matching gifts. When an employee notifies the company that he/she has made a charitable donation to Daniel Boone Elementary, the company will make a gift of usually the same amount. Any financial gifts to Daniel Boone Elementary or donations made through our Trivia Night Silent Auction are eligible to be matched. It is extremely easy to process.
